The classes of 4th, 5th and 6th together with their teachers, Mr Barry Kiely and Ms Bernie McKee , put their entrepreneurial skills to work during the months of January and February. They ran a hugely successful fundraiser, ‘Take a Tenner’ to raise funds for a new school polytunnel for the school garden.

Initially, the children in all three classes worked in small groups to come up with their own business ideas, all of which were very creative. They designed business plans, created persuasive advertising posters and sales pitches and recorded TV adverts which they shared with the entire school in the weeks leading up to the carnival to promote their businesses. In total there were ten business ventures selling products ranging from baked goods, hot chocolate, smoothies, sweets, toys, bracelets and popcorn. You could even try your luck at the raffle stall or gaming stall or choose to have a face paint or get some body art designs.

The carnival ran for 5 days from the 9th to the 14th of February. Every class visited the stalls for a half hour each day. There was an air of excitement all around the school for the entire week and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The parents and families of 4th , 5th and 6th  were invited in on the fourth day of the fundraiser to see their children’s work and effort.
The children of 4th, 5th and 6th class are delighted to report that they raised €2633.00 from the School Carnival. We are tremendously proud of their effort. Comhghairdeas gach duine!
